Title: Highland Escape
Authors: Cathy MacRae and D. D. MacRae
Genre: Historical Romantic Fantasy
Review Rating: 5 Stars
Reviewer: Linda Hays-Gibbs

Lady Anna Braxton flees to escape an English Lord that wants her for her fortune and property enough to kill her father and brother and force her into an unwanted marriage. She is hiding in the wilds of Scotland when she hears the screams of another woman and goes to her rescue. After her rescue though she finds herself imprisoned in another castle.
Duncan MacGregor sees the woman rescue his sister before he could get there and is totally enchanted by her beauty and abilities. This woman is very different from all the other women he has ever known. She fought fearlessly and quickly with great skill.  He is amazed but his father the Laird is afraid of her abilities and imprisons her against his son's advice.
Anna resents her treatment but refuses to tell them anything because she fears that her grandfather could be in danger because of her.
She does find a way to escape and demands an apology for her treatment.
Anna's bravery only makes Duncan more enchanted by her charms.
Finally, word was given to Laird Kenneth about why Anna was floundering around in the wilds of Scotland alone.  He feels very bad for putting her in prison and vows she will be adopted into his clan as his daughter but Anna isn't convinced. She doesn't trust any of them.
This is a beautiful story of survival and love. The romance is very erotic and hot too. So you have a great storyline that is interesting and entertaining.
The other characters have their own personalities too especially Laird Kenneth and his daughter Nessa. Laird Kenneth is thoughtful and protective of his clan and family. He cherishes his wife and daughter. Young Nessa is charming and filled with energy and youthful attention. She feels Anna is her sister truly after her rescue and they grow close.
Duncan is so in love with Anna you want to bite nails with him over his hidden desire. He tries to win her with all the skills he possesses. He is deliberate and smart with a strong sense of how valuable Anna is as a woman.
I enjoyed this historical jaunt into the past and recommend it to all lovers of romance and history with a little erotic thrown in for good measure. Enjoy the escape with Anna and escape into Scotland with a Highland romance. I gave it Five Stars for excellence.

Title: Deception of a Highlander
Author: Madeline Martin
Genre: Historical Romance
Review Rating: Five Stars
Reviewer: Linda Hays-Gibbs

Mariel Brandon is a pawn manipulated by a horrible spymaster, Aaron. He has her small brother, Jack and vows to kill him if Mariel doesn't do what he wants. He wants her to find Blair and Dougal
Hampton. He also wants Keiran MacDonald dead.
Kieran MacDonald is the new Laird of his clan at Caisteal Camus on Skye and he must return to insure the safety of his clan. He does not want any outsiders there, especially an English woman. He was fooled by deception before and it cost him his brother.
He meets Mariel at a party. He tries to dissuade Mariel from begging him to take her away from London. She begs him anyway. Telling him she is in fear of her life in London and must escape.
This love story is filled with intrigue and misunderstanding as well as torrid love scenes. The highlanders leave you breathless and the dangerous battles are exciting.
I will not give too much of this away as the story is so good. You don't know what the end will be till the last moment, as it should be.
I loved the twists and turns of the plot. Sometimes you don't know who can be trusted.
It was just what the doctor ordered, if you love wild highlanders and mysterious beautiful spies that can't keep their hands off each other. It was a fast moving action packed hot love story.
I loved the characters. Even the second, third, fourth in command, Colin, Alec, and Hamish left you breathless. With muscles bulging and warrior cries they left you wanting for more of them. Hopefully, they will be in the next editions of highlander romance books this great author writes.
I gave her Five Stars and wish there was more but that's the top of the line. I enjoyed this jaunt into Scotland's past highlander warrior Lairds. I hope she continues along these lines. It was a great read.

Title:The Twilight Laird
Author: Rhoda Clarkson
Genre: Historical Romance
Review Rating: Five Stars

This is a lovely story with  in depth characters and twisting plot. Exciting and warm dialogue with some humor and full fleshed characters are running over between the covers. This author is a talented story teller.
Miss Mariah Lawrence is a wealthy woman that feels she has everything she could ever hope for except one thing. She doesn't know how to find this ultimate happiness after all she has beauty, heath and money and the most perfect of fiancĂ©es. There is just some reason she postpones her wedding over and over again. She can't figure out what the problem could be.
Then she meets Dr. James MacGregor. He is the most frustrating, rude, antagonistic, uncouth, irrational, egotistical, insulting man she has ever met. Then why did she find him so intriguing? Why did she want to see him?
James MacGregor instantly dislikes this English invader of his ancestral home. She thinks she knows what his people like better than he and presumes too much. His family owned the castle for centuries but his father gambled it away to Mariah's father, then killed himself. It wasn't fair. He lost his father because of her father.  It was his home. She was just visiting and making promises to his people that she would never keep. He resented she owned his castle and lands and he resented that he wanted her from the first moment he laid eyes on her.
Mariah lost her parents and is visiting her cousin Irene, Aunt Harriet and Uncle George at her property, Glasdun Castle. Her Uncle has supervised this estate for her for 15 years but she needed to check on the people of her estate. She was disappointed in her Uncle's methods when she found her tenants in great distress. She went to work trying to relieve their problems. Her heart was always willing to help the unfortunate.
All her relatives could suggest was she should marry Edward, her betrothed quickly before he is snatched away. They were right but she just couldn't. She needed more time.
Things progress with Mariah as she learns how deeply others have suffered because of her Uncle. The plot takes you through the lives of not only Mariah but the crofters and farmers on her land and the MacGregors..
Dr MacGregor informs her of many disturbing things for which her family is responsible. She doesn't believe him but her eyes tell her there is some truth in his words.
The problem is that Mariah and James should be enemies but her heart isn't cooperating.
This is a page turner and a lovely romance with many twists and turns. I have it Five Stars.
I enjoyed reading this lovely romantic story.
